Let sleeping Labradors lie...

Some of my blog visitors could care less about costumes, billboards and my adventures around La La Land, they just want the latest updates on our Yellow Labrador Cooper.

Snoozing Labrador
These days our nine year old boy is a bit camera shy, so the only way to catch him for posterity is asleep.
Labrador Cooper asleep
That isn't a problem since he's become older and slower, as sleep is one of his favourite things to do.
Sleepy Labrador face
In terms of his general health he's doing well, although he's a little lumpy these days, fatty tissue thankfully, and a bit stiff getting around.
Sleeping Labrador Cooper
He still loves his trips to the beach to get all that energy out, but with the wildfires raging in Southern California we've not been able to go for a while, so we're hoping that next week we can enjoy a pre-Christmas jaunt to his favourite sandy shores.
Sleeping sofa Labrador
As you can see he's not that bothered, as long as he has a comfy sofa to stretch out on, or cool tiles or wood floor with the temperatures still soaring in L.A. to chill out on.
Sleeping Labrador Cooper face
As he gets older still I'm sure there'll be more ZZZ's in his future, but all we care about is that he's happy and healthy.

Sweet dreams Cooper...

A smorgasbord of new film costume and prop displays in L.A. this 2017 holiday season...

ArcLight Hollywood cinema is always a treasure trove of costumes and props around this time of year with all the industry awards and Oscar contenders hoping to grab your attention with their movie exhibits. With time tight with so much to do and so many films I'd love to see this festive season, these exhibits really tease me and help me decide what I'll watch next on the big screen.

The Tonya Harding figure skating biopic starring Margot Robbie looks interesting this December, and this bedazzled I, Tonya movie costume designed by Jennifer Johnson is the latest screen-worn outfit on display at my favourite L.A. cinema. It's definitely on my must-see list.

The Shape of Water movie costume exhibit

Up next for me I think though is Guillermo del Toro's latest flick, The Space of Water, which sounds just like my cup of tea. A mute, mousy caretaker meets an amphibian man that looks like the Creature from the Black Lagoon in a tale with a smattering of fantasy, horror and romance, sounds right up my alley.

Be sure to take a closer look at Sally Hawkins costume from The Shape of Water designed by Luis Sequeria. And if you haven't checked out the British actress in 2010's Made in Dagenham you really should, it's a really sweet film.

This awards season Gary Oldman seems desperate to get and Oscar nomination for his role as U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill in WWII drama, Darkest Hour.

Currently on display at the ArcLight Hollywood venue are these screen-used props from Darkest Hour which give you a glimpse inside the iconic figure's wartime work environment.

Disaster Artist movie costume and props exhibit

Disaster Artist movie exhibit
It'll be a bit of a guilty pleasure this holiday season, but I really want to see James Franco in The Disaster Artist. I was unaware of the people involved and the cult film itself, The Room, one of the worst ever made apparently, but there's something about the quirky biopic which appeals to my cinema viewing sensibilities. Brenda Abbandandolo was Costume Designer on this new movie, which also stars James real-life brother Dave Franco.

Outside there is also this recreation of a set from the movie to have your photo taken with.

And finally, there is also a cool display of sci-fi costumes from the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie on display, 'Finn' and 'Captain Phasma' costumes designed by Michael Kaplan.

I'm sure this won't be the last of the costume exhibits this season, especially with a new Star Wars movie on the way, but it's a damn good start to the awards consideration season.

I can't wait to see what appears next when I go to the movies...

Seven days, seven spectacular Hawaiian sunsets...

This November we had the good fortune to spend Thanksgiving on Hawaii with a group of seventeen people. For our first visit to the Big Island, we were lucky enough to have the most perfect beach view, staying in the Lalamilo Bungalow overlooking Waialea Bay in Puako. Not only could we step out of our vacation rental and be right on the sandy beach, but as the evening drew in we got to enjoy the most spectacular sunsets for seven nights.

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Day 5

Day 6
Waialea Beach sunset Hawaii

Day 7
Waialea Beach sunset Hawaii
Southern California has some pretty amazing sunsets, but this view in November around 5:45pm every day of our stay really helped transport me to another world of relaxation and beauty, and allowed me to really appreciate the Aloha spirit of Hawaii.

No matter if the skies were clear or full of clouds the views each evening were a visual delight, in fact they were made even more dramatic by clouds and the sun was framed beautifully by the bleached fallen driftwood tree branches on the beach.

We did make many excursions around the Big Island to hike, snorkel and visit beaches, but we always managed to find our way back for a cocktail on the beach at sunset.

They say take nothing from Hawaii expect memories, and I'm sure I'll never forget these glorious sunsets...

TV billboards entertaining L.A.'s November 2017 skies...

Even though it may not have been the start of a new TV season, there were still plenty of new shows, comedy specials, returning favourites, one-off charity events and awards consideration billboards filling the skies of L.A. this November 2017.

TV billboards
Jeff Ross Roasts the Border billboard
Stand-up comedy has always reflected politics, but no more so than in these times when America is so divided by an insane, inept President and his corrupt administration, so this billboard for Jeff Ross Roast the Border, with its nod to Trump's Mexican Wall they're never going to pay for, really stood out this month.
America greatest country in United States Judah Friedlander billboard
Judah Friedlander was also mocking the orange Buffoon-in-Chief with this funny baseball cap ad creative.
Jack Whitehall at Large billboard
Britain's Jack Whitehall was streaming his way across the Atlantic and getting his own Netflix stand-up special this month.
Brian Regan Nunchuks Flamethrowers billboard
And Brian Regan had a comedy special titled 'Nunchucks and Flamethrowers', which you'd think would make for a great visual, sadly no expense was spent here.
Night of Too Many Stars HBO billboard
Jon Stewart was back on TV and hosting the Night of Too Many Stars charity fundraising event for people with autism.
Hart of the City 2 billboard
Plus also in the world of comedy, Kevin Hart was back with a second round of Hart in the City on Comedy Central, tracking down the unsung underground comics all over America.
Hot Bench TV series billboard
Just like Judge Judy, the Hot Bench was doling out justice in the courtroom for its fourth season, only with three times as many judges.
Shameless season 8 billboard
The dysfunctional 'Gallaghers', no strangers to rule breaking, were back with this fun cut-out special extension billboard for their eighth season of living life Shameless-ly.
SMILF series premiere billboard
Showtime was also offering up a comedy about a single mother with an eye-catching name, SMILF, this month based on star Frankie Shaw's 2015 film of the same name.
Shes Gotta Have It series premiere billboard
Over on Netflix, Spike Lee was returning to his 1986 film, She's Gotta Have It, for a new series continuing the story of 'Nola Darling' and her three lovers, starring DeWanda Wise.
Godless series premiere billboard
Plus the streaming platform was also traveling to the Wild West for the limited series Godless, starring Michelle Dockery, Jack O'Connell and Jeff Daniels.
Godless series launch billboard
These interconnecting billboards for the Western drama were spotted above the busy Sunset Strip.
Crown season 2 billboard
British Royal family fans can rejoice this month, as not only will we be getting another Royal Wedding soon courtesy of Prince Harry and Megan Markle, but the sophomore season of the award-winning Queen Elizabeth II drama, The Crown, is on its way in December.
Punisher series premiere billboard
This November Marvel's The Punisher took to the streets, with Jon Bernthal playing the vigilante spinning out of his debut in the second season of Daredevil.
Runaways series premiere billboard
And speaking of Marvel Comics, the Runaways were getting adapted for the first time over on streaming platform Hulu, and I can't wait to see it.
Future Man series premiere billboard
Meanwhile Josh Hutcherson was flexing his funny bone, and mop, for the new time-traveling Hulu sci-fi comedy Future Man.
Long Road Home series billboard
This November the National Geographic channel was also adding to the glut of episodic war dramas on Fall television with The Long Road Home.
Knightfall Holy Hell series teaser billboard
Plus speaking of war, the History channel was traveling back in time to explore the world of the Templar Knights during the Crusades in Knightfall.
Search Party season 2 billboard
Search Party was back for a second season on TBS and had a great Hitchcockian outdoor ad campaign to launch the all-new episodes.
Happy series premiere billboard
Over on Syfy Christopher Meloni was getting Happy! with his new imaginary friend, based on yet another comic book series.
Marvelous Mrs Maisel series premiere billboard
Meanwhile The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, played by Rachel Brosnahan, was making her debut on Amazon and on the stand-up stage in late 1950s New York with this mischievous ad creative.
Jean-Claude Van Johnson series billboard
Plus martial arts movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme was trying his hand at comedy in his new Amazon Prime series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson.
Ride Norman Reedus season 2 billboard
The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus was back to Ride for another season exploring motorbike culture across America with friends and celebrities alike.
Comedy Central is corporate billboard
Meanwhile Comedy Central was teasing their forthcoming Corporate workplace comedy with this copy ad creative, maybe a worthy successor to Workaholics?
Watch cartoons All night billboard
And look at that, Adult Swim had a similar billboard design idea for their grownup cartoon network.
Sesame Street season 48 billboard
From adult humour to fun, muppets and learning for everyone, but mostly preschoolers, as Sesame Street was back in the skies this month for their 48th season.
Foursome season 3 YouTube Red billboard
Paid online subscription channel YouTube Red's Foursome was back for a third season of high school drama.
Bryan Hawn YouTube channel billboard
And speaking of YouTube, serial music video spoofer and bootylicious online hottie Bryan Hawn was being very 'cheeky' in the skies of West Hollywood for his online channel.

Awards consideration billboards
Handmaids Tale Golden Globes FYC billboard
The holiday season may be upon us, but it's also that time of year when studio and network minds turn to industry awards, so it's time to se all those 'For your consideration' billboards popping up in the city skyline for Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Critics' Choice Awards, including these outdoor ads for multiple Emmy-winner The Handmaid's Tale.
Sinner Golden Globe FYC billboard
Can Jessica Biel and her summer drama The Sinner also get some consideration this awards cycle with the help of these FYC billboards?
Game of Thrones season 7 FYC billboard
HBO always takes awards season seriously with a strong, cohesive campaign for all its shows and specials and this year is no exception, and at least Game Of Thrones and its seventh season is eligible for new awards after missing the Emmys this year.
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 9 FYC billboard
Curb Your Enthusiasm was revived for a ninth season on HBO this year, so no doubt Larry David et al will be hopeful for some nominations for their return to comedy glory.
Big Little Lies Golden Globes FYC billboard
And finally, here's another HBO FYC billboard for the hit limited series, Big Little Lies, which won eight Emmys and is obviously hoping to garner more accolades for its cast and the series itself.

As you can see there's been lots to see in the city skyline this past month, so be sure compare all these ad creatives to last November's TV billboards and come back next month for more roundups of all the interesting billboards gracing Hollywoodland's sprawling skyscape.

I'll keep my magpie eyes to the skies...
